The biggest reason most of the world today is using Android phones is that there's no data transfer channel to transfer or migrate data between iPhone and Android phones. But the iPhone maker is reportedly developing a new framework, App Migration Kit, to make it easier to transfer third-party app data between iOS and Android devices.
The toolkit to transfer iPhone data to and from Android will be available for devices running iOS or iPadOS 16.1 and later, currently in beta testing.
What is Apple's App Migration Kit?
Central to the App Migration Kit is that it will specifically facilitate data transfers from Apple devices to non-Apple devices, not between iOS and iPadOS. Moreover, iOS developers can choose whether their apps will import, export, or do both by creating an app extension that adheres to the new protocol.
When users set up a new device, all compatible apps using the App Migration Kit will include their data in the transfer package. After migration, developers can also import data stored in the cloud to the new device.
Another notable aspect of the development is that Apple is also planning to introduce a “Transfer to Android” option in the settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone) to inform users about what data can and cannot be transferred during migration.

Similarly, Android is also working on a similar “Transfer to iPhone” feature to allow cross-platform data transfer with iPhones.
Although Apple has an existing app for this purpose, the new built-in solution will likely streamline the process even more, making it easier for users to switch between the two popular operating systems.
