Apple’s latest iOS 18 update’s one of the key features, Apple Intelligence, has been one of the most innovative AI functionality that summarises emails in the Mail app.

However, some of the beta testers recently found a rather critical flaw regarding the feature that Apple Intelligence isn’t able to differentiate between phishing and real emails, marking scam emails as a priority.

Apple Intelligence considers just email text and ignores the sender's address along with other signals. This causes phishing emails to end up in the Inbox, highlighted as a priority, thus scamming unsuspecting users.

This vulnerability, if unchecked, could prove to be very disastrous when iOS 18.1 hits public release. The flaw that would be addressed soon, Apple Mail already scans for the authenticity of any corporate email IDs, this criterion can be combined with AI filters to determine the legitimacy of the emails.

Moreover, the issue further escalates the already existing problem of phishing in Apple Mail, where the junk email detector usually does not perform its task seamlessly.

Non-recognition of the phishing emails by Apple Intelligence can result in financial loss and account compromise for its users that may lead to disrupt the reputation of Cupertino-based tech giant in the market.
