The fourth generation iPhone SE is likely to get an OLED display, meaning Apple might ditch its Japanese display suppliers that specialise in LCD panels, according to a report.

iPhone SE 3 was the latest SE generation iPhone launched in 2022, and now Apple is reportedly working on the next iteration of the iPhone SE model.

iPhone SE to feature OLED display

A new report by Nikkei Asia suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to release the next-generation iPhone SE in a few months, most likely in early 2025.

The report also revealed that the tech giant is already reaching out to BOE and LG for iPhone SE 4 OLED panels, marking an end for LCD panels in iPhone as well as partnership between Apple and Japanese display suppliers including Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp.

It’s worth noting that previously both these companies used to account for 70% of iPhone display panels. However, after the transition to OLED panels, Apple moved to South Korean and Chinese suppliers.

Furthermore, display tech aside, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to support Apple Intelligence, meaning it will be a more capable device than the iPhone 15, which isn’t getting Apple’s on-device AI feature because it only has 6GB of RAM.
