Apple is set to make a big impact in the wearable technology market with a number of ambitious new products, including updated extended reality (XR) headsets and advanced smart glasses.
According to rumours, the tech giant has at least five new wearable devices scheduled for launch over the next few years.
Apple Vision Pro 2
Notably, leading the lineup is the Apple Vision Pro 2, the next iteration of its XR headset. Powered by the upcoming M5 chipset, this device is anticipated to go into mass production in the third quarter of 2025.
Apple expects to ship between 150,000 and 200,000 units in the first year. The product will continue to be a niche offering with an emphasis on ecosystem development and XR applications.
Vision Air
Additionally, Apple is working on the Vision Air, a lighter and less expensive variant of the Vision Pro.
This lightweight and affordable XR headset will weigh approximately 40% less than the current Vision Pro and will be powered by a high-end iPhone processor. The mass production is scheduled for Q3 2027.
Smart glasses
In addition to XR headsets, Apple is developing smart glasses designed to compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses.
These advanced glasses will concentrate on audio playback, camera, and video recording and use voice control and gesture recognition for navigation. These smart glasses are set to begin mass production in Q2 2027.
XR glasses with display
Furthermore, Apple is working on XR glasses with a display that will have a colour screen and AI capabilities.
It is anticipated that these glasses will go into mass production in the second half of 2028. This cutting-edge technology could redefine the future of wearable devices.
