Meta has decided to delay the launch of its upcoming mixed-reality glasses, called Phoenix, until 2027. The device was earlier expected to be released in the second half of 2026.

According to a report by Business Insider, the company wants more time to refine the product and make sure it is fully polished before it reaches consumers.

This update comes from an internal memo in which Meta Executives Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns wrote that moving the launch date will give the team “more breathing room to get the details right.”

Meta's Phoenix glasses

The Phoenix glasses, previously known by their code name Puffin, are designed to be lightweight at approximately 100 grams, or 3.5 ounces.

However, earlier reports said that the glasses feature lower-resolution displays and less powerful computing performance compared with high-end devices, such as Apple's Vision Pro.

This could be one of the reasons why Meta wants more time to improve the hardware and user experience.

Phoenix is part of Meta's push into mixed reality, a technology that blends virtual and augmented reality and allows digital objects to interact with the real world.

Meta also reportedly plans to cut the budget of its metaverse division by as much as 30%, according to Bloomberg News

The group, under Reality Labs, makes Meta's Quest mixed-reality headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, which were developed with EssilorLuxottica, and forthcoming augmented-reality glasses.
