Polish developer Bloober Team has shared new details about the story and mysteries of their upcoming survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn, just weeks ahead of its September 5 release.

The new developer diary focused on the game's setting and narrative, showcasing a world changed permanently by a cataclysmic event from the 1980s called "The Change", described as a "weird disease" by their lead writer, Grzegorz Like.

Players play as "Travellers", agents of a strange group called the Collective, and they will be sent back in time to extract and retrieve "essence"—which is to say their souls—of high-profile targets.

The extraction has an impact on the gameplay and story, as it comes with perks and other decision points that allow the player to explore new aspects of the narrative, making for an interesting experience that should allow for replay value.

Moreover, the diary also introduced one of the main NPCs called The Warden, who organises and manages the player's equipment and serves as the base of operations for missions.

Bloober Team also stressed that the game is more about the people and their interlinked nature than it is about cosmic horror and survival.
