In a remarkable turn of events, BYD has announced to equip its autonomous vehicles with DeepSeek, an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant which has been making waves while taking by surprise the realm of AI globally.

The renowned China-based automaker specified that the integration of the Chinese AI model will be executed across all of its self-driving vehicles priced under the $10,000 mark.

"Autonomous driving is no longer a remote rarity, it's a [...] necessary tool," BYD founder Wang Chuanfu said during a live-streamed event.

BYD's plans for DeepSeek integration follow the reported inclusion of the Chinese AI chatbot into the flagship vehicle lineups from local car manufacturers including Geely, Great Wall Motors, and Leapmotor.

This announcement is expected to trigger a pricing war among the leading driverless vehicle makers like Tesla, which is BYD's biggest rival in the country and beyond, as reported by The News citing sources.

As part of the integration of AI tools into its vehicles, BYD will also install its "God's Eye" autonomous driving system in at least 21 models, including but not limited to the Seagull budget hatchback priced at ¥69,800 ($9,550).

BYD's God's Eye system brings a wide array of features to the table such as remote parking and autonomous highway navigation, features which were so far exclusive to expensive vehicles from automakers like Tesla which offers similar functionalities in its EVs starting from $32,000.
