Widely popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, has been integrated with an array of new shopping features, making it easier for users to discover, compare, and buy products through the chatbot.
ChatGPT's shopping-oriented features, announced on 28 April, entail appealing visual product listings alongside pricing details, user reviews, and direct links to purchase items.
The new features started to go live this week and, irrespective of tiers, including Free, Plus, or Pro plans, and unsubscribed users, are expected to be available to all users within the next few days.
OpenAI announced that the featured product listings are not endorsements of paid advertisements, instead, they are picked independently.
In addition to the e-commerce features, ChatGPT’s search tools have also been enhanced, enabling the chatbot to offer trending search suggestions, autocomplete, and real-time updates like live sports scores.
For better transparency, the bot's responses now also include multiple sources.
The inclusion of these new features and improvements came amid AI tools playing a vital role in helping users when shopping and improving their choices. During past holiday seasons, AI-assisted product searches were linked to increased retail traffic.
Most of the sales during the recently concluded holiday season were said to be driven by the AI-assisted product searches.
