Shortly after it fell prey to a cyber attack from a hostile entity, the Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed that its official X (formerly Twitter) account has been recovered.

The ministry announced that notorious actors had taken control of the social media account and posted misleading content regarding the ongoing geopolitical situation between Pakistan and India, adding that the post, removed shortly after the breach was detected, did not represent the ministry’s views or operations.

With a probe into the cyberattack underway, a spokesperson from the ministry stated: “The enemy hacked the account and posted inappropriate content concerning Pakistan-India tensions. It was a deliberate attempt to damage Pakistan’s reputation globally.”

As a safety measure, authorities have temporarily deactivated the account to avoid further misuse, ProPakistani reported.

The ministry praised the prompt response of its technical team and coordination with other relevant government bodies for swiftly neutralising the threat. “Through joint efforts, the conspiracy to defame Pakistan was effectively foiled,” the spokesperson added.

Although efforts are being made to ensure that the government's official digital platforms remain secure, the incident took place in the midst of heightened sensitivity in the region.
