YouTube TV is preparing one of its biggest shifts since debuting in 2017, as the service moves toward a cable-style structure with new genre-specific packages set to launch in early 2026.
The popular streaming platform, which currently offers a single all-in-one bundle, plans to give subscribers more control by allowing them to choose smaller and more affordable content groups.
YouTube’s genre-based packages
YouTube TV significantly raised its price per month to $83 last year, representing a 137% increase from its original price at launch at $35.
Just about the time that live TV streaming services have seen an increase in costs, customers have been demanding more streamlined and flexible solutions.
Details about the YouTube genre-based packages' pricing have yet to be disclosed, but it has been made known that there are genre-based sets that will be included initially.
Some of the genres include sports, news, entertainment, and family. All these packs can be mixed and matched based on user preferences.
YouTube TV Sports Plan will include all ESPN networks, FOX Sports 1 (FS1), National Broadcasting Company (NBC) Sports Network, and major broadcast networks, thus pitting it against Fubo and DirecTV’s sports-heavy lineup.
In contrast, some genres will be structured in a comparable fashion, offering an opportunity for households to form some manner of plan based on their viewing preferences.
These will be in addition to the existing comprehensive package for $83, which will still be offered for people who want the classic all-in-one solution.
