Ahead of the much-anticipated “Made by Google” event, Google has announced the rollout of its locally produced Pixel 8 devices in India.

The company initially announced its plan to launch made-in-India devices in October 2023. Now, nearly 10 months later, the Pixel 8 is being introduced just before the release of the highly anticipated Pixel 9 series.

Google’s primary goal in manufacturing the Pixel smartphone lineup locally in India is to expand its presence in the Indian smartphone market, which is the second-largest in the world after China.

While Google has not yet revealed its local manufacturing partners, reports suggest that its global manufacturing partner, Compal, has teamed up with India’s Dixon Technologies to produce the Pixel 8 models locally.

It's important to note that the local manufacturing initiative is currently limited to the Pixel 8 and does not include the Pixel 8 Pro or Pixel 8a models.

Alongside Google, companies like Samsung and Apple also produce devices in India for both local sales and exports to various emerging markets. Additionally, Chinese companies such as Xiaomi and Oppo have domestic production facilities in the country.

At today’s event, Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 9 series, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Watch 3, along with Gemini AI upgrades specifically designed for mobile devices.
