Google has officially announced that AI Overviews are now powered by Gemini 2.0 in the US. It will now assist with complex questions regarding coding, multimodal queries, and advanced math, promising to deliver enhanced and higher-quality responses.

AI Overviews have now expanded to include teenagers and individuals who are signed into their Google accounts. As a result, previous methods of avoiding AI Overviews, such as browsing without an account, will no longer be effective.

Moreover, the company has launched “AI Mode” as an experiment in search, which users can opt into from Search Labs. This feature expands AI Overviews by launching "more advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal capabilities."

AI Mode utilises a custom variant of Gemini 2.0 and is "particularly helpful for questions that need further exploration, comparisons, and reasoning." It allows users to ask nuanced questions that previously required several searches and then manually review all the answers with multiple searches, ensuring a more seamless and efficient search experience.

This significant update introduces "advanced model capabilities" with the company's "best-in-class information systems." Users will be able to access top-tier content and click "fresh, real-time sources like the Knowledge Graph."

Additionally, there’s also integration with shopping data for billions of products, further strengthening Google's e-commerce presence.

It is important to note that Google will start inviting Google One AI Premium subscribers to be the first ones to try AI Mode.
