The renowned artificial intelligence (AI) startup Midjourney has unveiled a new AI video generation model called "V1" that can transform images into a brief video.
The new tool allows users to use a single image, either user-uploaded or generated through Midjourney’s other models, and transforms it into four five-second video clips.
With the introduction of V1, Midjourney comes in direct competition with other AI video generation models from rival companies such as OpenAI’s Sora, Runway’s Gen-4, Adobe’s Firefly, and Google’s Veo 3.
Apart from making videos for movies or advertisements, Midjourney can also develop AI models that can replicate whole worlds in real time.
Similar to its image models, currently, the V1 model can be accessed online and through Discord. In addition to controlling the amount of movement in the video, users can select between automatic and manual animation.
Users have the option to extend the videos up to 21 seconds from their initial five-second duration.
It is worth mentioning that the launch comes just a week after Midjourney was sued by two famous Hollywood studios, including Universal Studios and Disney.
The companies have claimed that images created by Midjourney’s AI image models depict the studio’s copyrighted characters, such as Homer Simpson and Darth Vader.
With a monthly starting price of $10, Midjourney's video generation feature costs more than its image generation feature. Notably, users with higher-tier plans will get access to exclusive features.
