Imitating the wide-running trend of AI and make services accessible worldwide, Reddit announced on Thursday that its AI-powered search feature now supports five new languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

The support of five additional languages in Reddit's AI search functionality means users in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy can now interact with the AI in a question-and-answer format, but only if one of these languages is set as their default instead of English. The feature is powered by a Google AI model.

Reddit's AI search was launched last year, and is part of Reddit Answers, another tool designed to complement the platform's traditional search function.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman revealed in August that the search feature has over 70 million weekly users, with Reddit Answers being utilised by more than 6 million people.

He also mentioned the platform's plans to unify the search experience during the company’s quarterly earnings call.

The popularity of Q&A-style search and chat interfaces has gained substantial ground since ChatGPT introduced web search capabilities.

Renowned search engines like Google and Brave have rolled out similar features for enhances user engagement, while newer startups like Perplexity are gaining traction with chat-based search options. This expansion is a significant step directed towards the betterment of user experience and accessibility across different languages.
