Google has released a new chapter in its “BestPhonesForever” campaign, this time borrowing energy from Broadway. The ad coincides with the theatrical debut of Wicked: For Good and frames another playful showdown between the Pixel and iPhone.

In the ad, an iPhone openly compliments the Pixel before breaking into a musical tribute set to the Wicked: For Good soundtrack. The ad points out that the Pixel has repeatedly offered features long before Apple decided it would offer similar ideas.

Among the mentions are call screening, photo-editing tools that erase unwanted objects, and a conversational AI assistant.

The character of the iPhone sings, “Oh Pixel, I’m so lucky to have a friend like you. You’ve always inspired me! You do things first that show me the way. Like fixing photos, screening calls, or building an AI assistant you can have real conversations with.

Although the ad is light-hearted, it does not provide useful information about the product. It is almost fully dependent on the use of humour and musical performance to get the message across.

The approach makes the practical reasons for choosing a Pixel over an iPhone less apparent, especially for a device meant to emphasize AI capabilities.

Google has been running Pixel-against-iPhone ads since 2023, and the campaign contains over 30 clips. These usually compare features or point to gaps in Apple's line-up or are focused on areas like AI and software innovation.
