Google is testing a new revamped loading animation for AI Overviews in Search, which appears to be more vibrant and dynamic than the current design.
The AI Overviews’ new animation is being tested in Search Labs.
What are Google Search AI Overviews?
Google Search AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that appear in search results, often before organic listings.
These overviews synthesise information from multiple sources to provide a concise summary.

When loading, the AI Overview initially displays "Generating..." in the top-left corner, followed by "Looking this up" and then "Putting it all together." This new sequence replaces the previous "Searching..." message.
Moreover, a blue and purple glow envelops the rectangular container, creating a visual connection to Gemini overlay on Android and in Gemini Live.
This change might be more than just a design update, as it could coincide with the rollout of Gemini 2.0.
It should be noted that earlier this month, Google announced that it was testing Gemini 2.0 for AI Overviews in Search, promising advanced reasoning capabilities that will enable the model to tackle more complex topics and multi-step questions.
While there are several reports regarding this new animation, it is not yet widely available to the public.
