For the first time, Google is releasing its AI-powered video editing tool, Google Vids, to all users. Previously only for subscribers of Google Workspace and the AI plan, the new rollout is the base version and comes with a lot of templates, stock media, and some limited AI features.
Google Vids began last year to help users quickly create video presentations. This new tool allows for things like storyboarding utilising suggested scenes, stock images, and background music.
It also included 12 pre-made AI avatars that can change looks and voices, allowing users to add a script and create presentations without needing on-camera talent.
Unfortunately, the free version doesn't include the advanced AI-powered features launched on Wednesday. For example, users can't create their own custom AI avatars of themselves, which is currently offered by Zoom. Google does not have any information on when it might, or might not, release this feature.
Additionally, Google lets users create new short 8-second videos that feature any specific images, like product photos, through the new video generation options.
Another upgrade allows for filler words and long pauses to be taken out of a recording automatically, which is a clean and professional video look.
Google hopes these tools will help companies save time and costs. “A 10-minute-long clip with real actors can take up to six months and cost thousands of dollars,” said Google’s product director Vishnu Sivaji. “With Vids, businesses can produce training videos, product demos, and support content much faster.”
