Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has reached an agreement with generative AI startup Midjourney to boost its artificial intelligence capabilities.
Midjourney will give Meta access to Midjourney’s advanced “aesthetic technology” and help advance product and AI models to be used in the future.
Midjourney is popular for using artificial intelligence to generate high-quality images from text prompts, with millions of creative users on its platform. The tool is offered using a subscription model, which allows designers, marketers, and content creators to generate realistic or artistic images in seconds. Meta plans to provide similar creativity on its platform.
“Midjourney has impressed us tremendously,” said Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer. "The technical collaboration will involve the research teams from each company."
Meta is actively building the best products with the right compute roadmap, in addition to partnerships with some of the best companies like Midjourney.”
Meta is solidifying its AI strategy to compete with competitors like OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Google, which have made significant breakthroughs in AI. Meta has been seeking opportunities to differentiate its products through enhanced visuals and a superior user experience.
Experts say the deal could help Meta launch more creative tools for users and advertisers, potentially reducing content creation costs while boosting engagement. The partnership also aligns with Meta’s ongoing efforts under its reorganised AI division, Superintelligence Labs, following mixed reviews of its latest LLaMA 4 open-source model.
As the AI race in social media heats up, collaborations like this are expected to shape the future of online creativity.
