Google is testing a completely revamped interface for its Gemini overlay in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2, featuring a modified launch experience and possibly correcting the sudden absence of vibration feedback.

In the latest Beta 2 update, there was user feedback that they were not receiving any vibration feedback while using that long-press gesture.

Remarkably, the haptics were still functioning properly for the normal Power menu. That indicates that the missing buzz is most likely just a rendering bug with the digital assistant option, instead of being a permanent change.

In addition to the missing vibration, there is also an A/B test for a new animation for launching Gemini, so only part of the users will see the change for now.

For beta testers, in the new update the screen will gently shrink down as the black operation borders creep in from all four sides.

When the borders reach their limit, the Gemini overlay pops in gracefully, displaying its normal options such as “Share screen with Live”, “Ask about screen”, and the “Ask Gemini” field. The screen then returns to full size, and you can now interact with Gemini as normal.

The animation is crisp and fluid on devices and gives the illusion of your screen's physical borders moving inside. It is a visual upgrade that also creates a more immersive experience of launching the assistant.

Beyond Gemini changes, the update was also testing a new Pixel Launcher search area that contained AI Mode as a redesigned version.
