The government of Pakistan has taken strict action against its citizens involved in criminal activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This move is part of Pakistan's efforts to address the growing number of citizens facing criminal charges abroad.
According to reports from ARY News, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the passports of 4,700 Pakistani nationals currently jailed in the UAE have been deactivated.
The decision to block the passports comes after detailed reports were received from UAE authorities. A total of 5,292 Pakistani citizens are serving sentences in the UAE for various offences.
A significant number are involved in drug-related crimes, with 2,470 individuals convicted for drug offences. Moreover, 100 Pakistanis have been convicted for fraud, deception, and sexual harassment cases.
Additionally, the government has invalidated the passports of 704 Pakistanis who were convicted of theft, and 216 others involved in serious crimes such as murder and robbery.
In another important move, 375 Pakistani nationals who were residing illegally in the UAE have also had their passports revoked.
In the coming months, it is expected that more steps could be taken to ensure that Pakistani nationals comply with both local and international laws.
The authorities have warned that those involved in criminal activities should expect further consequences, including a potential ban on travelling abroad.
