Grand Theft Auto 6, the long-awaited sequel to Rockstar Games' iconic open-world action franchise, has officially been pushed back.
The game, previously slated for release in 2025, will now arrive in May 2026. Rockstar explains that the additional time is necessary to provide the quality that fans have come to expect from the studio.
GTA 6 delayed again
GTA 6, or Grand Theft Auto VI, is one of the most eagerly awaited games in the world. The game continues in the line of GTA 5, which became the second highest-selling video game of all time.
Famous for its open-world action, suspenseful missions, and a blend of action and crime, the GTA series has millions of followers worldwide.
In a recent release, Rockstar Games stated that the delay in GTA 6 was not done lightly. "We need a little more time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve," the company explained.
The news has left many fans disappointed, but some comment that they'd rather wait for a quality game than receive a rushed one.
Rockstar's previous major game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was also delayed prior to release but was highly acclaimed for its quality.
GTA 6's initial trailer, dropped in December 2023, received more than 100 million views, indicating how eagerly the fans are waiting for the release.
