GTA 6 rumours: Rockstar may revisit GTA 5's trio in future DLC

Return of older characters in GTA 6, like Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, might overshadow or detract from the newcomers

Grand Theft Auto has gained a reputation as one of the most popular open-world video game series of all time.

With GTA 6 officially set to make its return to Vice City, fans are speculating whether or not three of the most iconic characters—Michael, Franklin, and Trevor from GTA 5—could return in a future DLC (downloadable content item).

GTA 6 rumoured to welcom GTA 5 characters

These three characters played a big role in making GTA 5 an international success. Their distinct personalities, memorable heists, and Rockstar's audacious character-switching dynamic created a willingness for players to spend hours in Los Santos.

However, when the voice actors of these characters—Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, and Steven Ogg—teased last month that they might be open to "one last job", anticipation began to swell among the fanbase.

The return of this trio in GTA 6 could create an overall hype and emotional context while simultaneously providing some sense of closure.

There is a caveat, though. It is widely believed that GTA 6 will introduce new characters, new storylines, and new issues into the universe, including gender roles in crime, digital scams, and cryptocurrency.

The return of older characters, like Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, might overshadow or detract from the newcomers and arguably send a counter message to the recently introduced tone of the game.

There are many that believe that Rockstar Games should utilise the three characters with mentions, or Easter eggs, or some other ties to the storylines and leave it at that, rather than providing a full-fledged release with the three characters having any meaningful value in the next game.

For example, Franklin’s real estate empire might appear in Vice City, or Michael’s movies could show up in cinemas. These nods would honour GTA 5’s legacy while letting new stories shine.
