Both the Google Nest Thermostat and Nest Learning Thermostat are two of the most popular smart thermostats available on the market today, as they are capable of helping reduce your energy bills and keep your home cosy and comfortable.

However, as these products don't feature the conventional physical buttons found on typical thermostats, operating them requires a slight learning curve.

If you're grappling with how to activate heating with the Nest Thermostat or find your home becoming too warm, Gad Insider has brought a guide to switching modes and restoring your home to your desired temperature.

How to adjust temperature and change modes in Nerd Thermostat

Whether you're adjusting for heating, cooling, or the combined heat and cooling function, the process of changing modes on the Nest Thermostat remains consistent. Here's a guide to operating your Nest Thermostat and changing its modes.

  • If you have the Nest Thermostat or Nest Learning Thermostat, open the menu by pressing the touch bar or ring.
  • Navigate to Mode (also known as Temperature Mode, depending on your model).
  • Choose the desired mode. For the Nest Thermostat, slide your finger to the mode and tap to select. For the Nest Learning Thermostat, turn the ring until your preferred mode is highlighted, then press to confirm.
  • Once your selection is confirmed, the thermostat will promptly transition to the new mode. To view your preferred temperature ranges for heating and cooling, check the Google Home app.
  • If you're using the older Nest Thermostat E, open the menu by pressing the ring. Turn the ring to select your desired mode, and once highlighted, press to confirm your selection.

The heat and cool method: Alternative technique

Before proceeding towards the details to activate your heating or air conditioning, it's important to highlight the Heat and Cool mode, a feature already present in most Nest Thermostats.

This mode enables the thermostat to automatically engage either your furnace or air conditioning unit based on your predetermined preferences.

If your home becomes too cold, the heating system will activate, and if it becomes too warm, the air conditioning will kick in. The convenience of Heat and Cool modes eliminates the need to switch between different modes, making it simpler to maintain a comfortable temperature in your home.
