As Apple is gearing up to push the veil off updates to its huge flagship product range, a new stir has approached the limelight, making iPhone enthusiasts wonder if the upcoming iPhone 17 Air will be a transformative iPhone model to normalise wireless charging.

If it comes to fruition, this move would make the iPhone 17 Air Apple's first fully portless iPhone, which will solely rely on Qi2-certified MagSafe wireless charging and cloud-based data syncing.
Reports churned out by a number of industry insiders and tipsters hint at an even bigger transition towards cable-free mobile devices.
While some other reports also indicated that Apple had postponed this transition due to concerns over EU regulations, the European Commission (EC) has clarified that a portless iPhone is permissible under current laws.
Federica Miccoli, the commission spokesperson at EC, stated: "If a phone does not offer wired charging, then it is not required to have a USB-C port." This clarification removes a significant regulatory barrier, allowing Apple to pioneer a new era of wireless-only devices.
Set to debut in September, the iPhone 17 Air is believed to be the slimmest iPhone ever. Analysts believe it could influence future iPhone models and the wider smartphone industry by phasing out physical charging ports altogether.
