In a delightful move indicating a warm reception of the ultra-slim iPhone in China, Apple's iPhone Air is all set to be available in China this week after securing the approval of eSIM services by major Chinese telecom operators.
The announcement was made on Monday, with iPhone Air pre-orders in China also scheduled to kick off this week on October 17.
iPhone Air price in China
For those planning to invest in the slimmest iPhone Apple ever created, the iPhone Air is priced from 7,999 yuan (approximately $1,121.56), and it will be the only iPhone model in China equipped with eSIM support.
People unversed with it should note that an eSIM is a digital, intangible SIM planted directly in the device. It allows users to activate mobile service without needing a physical SIM card.
China's three main telecom companies—China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom—have obtained regulatory nod to provide trial eSIM services, Reuters reported, citing a website linked to the industry ministry.
Apple CEO Tim Cook, who is currently on a visit to Shanghai, expressed his excitement about the upcoming iPhone Air launch on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The notable side of the picture is that the launch of the iPhone Air was delayed earlier due to the need for regulatory approval, as eSIM services were not the norm in China, as well as for Chinese smartphone users.
As of now, with the required approvals granted, Apple is expected to enter the Chinese market strongly with its new slimmest iPhone model.
