Similar to the previous years, citizens in Karachi, Pakistan, are reportedly encountering severe gas crises as the cold weather is intensifying.
The ongoing gas loadshedding has forced households and businesses to resort to buying expensive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
It also emerged that besides the schedule set by the authority—from 9:30pm to 6am and 2:30pm to 5pm—most parts of the city run out of gas all day long or get it with negligible pressure.
Lamenting the gas issues, troubled residents noted that the unscheduled gas loadshedding occurs every year as soon as the winter approaches the city.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Dawn reported that dilapidated gas distribution infrastructure in Karachi was one of the major causes of this crisis.
Regarding the low pressure, sources in gas utility claimed that it's triggered by leakages in the distribution network.
The gas utility spokesman attributed the persistent gas shortages to the yearly depletion of gas reservoirs.
Contradicting the views shared by consumers across Karachi, he noted that there was no gas loadshedding in SSGC’s franchise areas, particularly in the domestic sector.
