Kuwait has officially resumed a number of visa categories for Pakistani citizens. This initiative is expected to enhance job prospects and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

As reported by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait Dr Zaffar Iqbal, the new visa categories include work, family visit, dependent, tourist and commercial visas.

Dr Iqbal confirmed that the first Pakistani nationals have already begun receiving approvals since May 2025.

Dr Iqbal also relayed to the audience that Kuwait is preparing to bring in 1,200 Pakistani nurses to the healthcare sector, but the initial group of 125 nurses have yet to arrive because of housing challenges.

“We expect them as soon as possible,” he offered, highlighting that action is being implemented in addressing the concern.

There is also a labour memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pakistan and Kuwait, which is in the process of being developed.

Moreover, the MoU is yet to be signed, but some clauses are being implemented, showing trust and cooperation between the two parties.

Currently, over 93,000 Pakistanis are living in Kuwait and are engaged in a range of work sectors, including healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

Dr Iqbal praised their contribution and noted Kuwait’s increasing investment in Pakistan, especially in sectors like agriculture, food security, and housing.

He also highlighted Kuwait’s support for Pakistan’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council and remembered Pakistan’s military assistance to Kuwait during the Gulf War.
