Google's globally popular app marketplace for Android, the Play Store, is getting a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that summarises app reviews, enabling users to quickly assess overall feedback without wading through lengthy comments.
The Play Store's new AI-assisted feature is being rolled out gradually and is currently available on select devices using Play Store version 48.5.23-31, Android Authority reported.
It was also noted that the new AI tools' wider release will be observed soon.
Where to find AI summaries on Play Store?
For those wondering, Play Store's AI summaries are located in the Ratings and Reviews section and offer the crux of user sentiments in three to four sentences under the heading “Users are saying.” Each summary ends with a tag stating “Summarised by Google AI.”
Besides AI summaries, Google has launched smart review filters, or “chips,” to help users sort feedback based on themes such as app stability, interface, or feature availability. This overhaul will likely streamline the process of finding specific insights regarding app performance and usability.
While the additional AI feature for the Google Play Store was commended by many tech enthusiasts for its efficiency, experts caution that AI-generated summaries may not comprehend nuances or misinterpret user complaints. This is a concern which was also spotted in similar AI review summaries from Amazon and Apple.
Google's decision to integrate AI tools into the Play Store aligns with its broader strategy to integrate its Gemini model across its ecosystem, under which the tech giant may also introduce Q&A features for app listings and improved “App Highlights.”
