Microsoft has launched a new chat service, Copilot Chat, enabling businesses to utilise on-demand AI agents for routine tasks.

This free chat service utilises OpenAI's GPT-4 technology, allowing users to create AI agents using natural languages like English and Mandarin (the official language of China).

With Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, the company has rebranded what was previously known as Bing Chat Enterprise before it was renamed Copilot.

Businesses leveraging Copilot Chat can carry out tasks such as market research, strategy document writing, and meeting preparation.

However, some features, including Team call summarisation and transcription, and PowerPoint slides creation, require a $30 monthly Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.

As a major technology company, Microsoft is under pressure to demonstrate returns on its significant investments in AI. The software giant is expected to spend around $80 billion on data centres and AI infrastructure during the current fiscal year.

Following a Gartner report that raised concerns about Copilot's adoption, Microsoft has been actively promoting the service.

In November, the tech giant introduced autonomous agents that require minimal human intervention, a strategy that some analysts believe could provide a simpler path to monetisation for tech companies.
