The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday made it easier for citizens to get a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), letting them avoid repeated visits to the centres.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Nadra said that you can now apply for a CNIC from the comfort of your home through the Pak-ID mobile app. "Once processed, the ID card will be delivered directly to your home via courier service."

"Save your valuable time. Get your CNIC delivered to your home," said Nadra, adding that the new service aims to save citizens' time of waiting in long queues at centres.

Last week, the federal government offered a major facility that citizens in Pakistan can get their first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for free within 15 days.

According to Nadra, if you have turned 18 years of age, then you are advised to visit your nearest Nadra centre — apply for a CNIC — complete the process, and get your first CNIC without paying any fee.

It should be noted that the authority will provide the first CNIC without a chip to citizens for free. "After reaching 18 years, a citizen becomes eligible to vote in general elections."
