In the midst of rising apprehensions of a delay and headlines grabs, the Nintende Switch 2 has been confirmed to launch on June 5 this year.

It emerged that Nintendo, the Japanese video game company, made the announcement during an hours-long presentation about the first Switch iteration after its predecessor debuted nearly eight years back in 2017.

According to Reuters, the portable gaming console is equipped with a bigger and better screen, besides a newly featured mouse function.

The first original Nintendo Switch is reported to have sold over 150 million units, with intermittent accomodation of hardware upgrades and a plethora of hit titles from renowned gaming franchises such as "Super Mario" and "The Legend of Zelda".

Nintendo Switch 2 price

Once launched, the Nintendo Switch 2's price will be $449.99 in the US and 49,980 yen ($334.09) in Japan for a Japanese language system or 69,980 yen for a multi-language version.

"The price is a bit higher than what was widely expected," said Serkan Toto, founder of the Kantan Games consultancy.

"Once the Switch 2 goes on sale, we believe the strength of demand will become evident," Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal stated before the announcement.

One of the most popular in the wide range of games include "Mario Kart World".

Although Switch encountered various supply disruptions throughout its lifecycle at a price point of $299.99, it changed the success trajectory of the company after it was hit by the low-sales woes of Wii U following its 2012 launch.
