As has been the case on the internet, excitement buzzed through the Makuhari Messe convention centre near Tokyo where gamers lined up, desperate to try the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 ahead of launch.

The testing of the globally acclaimed Switch 2 console took place despite concerns around tariff-driven price hikes, as avid gamers' enthusiasm seemed not to dwindle for Nintendo’s latest console.

The latest Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at 49,980 yen ($350) in Japan and $449.99 in the US, according to Reuters.

Seemingly eager to experience the latest iteration of the original classic Switch, which has sold over 150 million units since its 2017 launch, Nintendo Switch 2 fans played popular titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza on the latest Nintendo Switch 2 handheld.

However, it was also learned that in the wake of global trade tariffs' enforcement, particularly from the United States under President Donald Trump’s policies threatening to drive up prices for electronics, price hikes remain a persisting concern.

“I am concerned about a price hike not just for the game console but for accessories too,” said Hidenori Tanaka, a 55-year-old real estate employee attending the event.

Despite pricing concerns, demand for the Switch 2 console is soaring exponentially. Nintendo disclosed that it had received 2.2 million lottery applications in Japan for a chance to purchase the Switch 2. “Honestly, I didn’t think I had a shot,” said Hyuma Hashiguchi, 28, who won a coveted spot.
