OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has officially announced the release of the company’s latest reasoning artificial intelligence (AI) model, o3 mini, which is scheduled to launch in the coming weeks.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Altman shared that OpenAI has incorporated user feedback and plans to release both the application programming interface (API) and ChatGPT simultaneously with the new model.
OpenAI revealed that it has been testing reasoning AI models, o3 and o3 mini, signalling intensified competition with rivals like Google to develop innovative models capable of handling complex tasks.
Initially, OpenAI aimed to launch the o3 mini by the end of January 2025, with the full o3 model to follow. These advanced large language models (LLMs) are expected to surpass existing flagship models, generating significant interest among users and investors alike.
In September 2024, OpenAI introduced the o1 AI models, which already demonstrated the ability to tackle complex tasks. However, the upcoming o3 and o3 mini models promise enhanced precision and versatility.
Earlier this week, OpenAI announced a beta feature called "Tasks" for ChatGPT, marking its entry into the virtual assistant market. This move positions OpenAI as a direct competitor to Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa, solidifying its foothold in the AI-powered assistant space.
