OpenAI launched the Advanced Voice Mode with Vision feature in ChatGPT on Thursday, enabling the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbot to access the phone’s camera to capture visual insights, offering innovative interactions for users. The feature will exclusively be available to ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Team and ChatGPT Pro subscribers.

The feature utilises the cutting-edge capabilities of GPT-4o and delivers real-time voice responses based on the visuals captured through the device's camera. This groundbreaking tool was initially launched in May during the Spring Updates event.

ChatGPT vision feature capabilities

The new ChatGPT feature was released during the sixth day of OpenAI's 12-day livestreaming organised to release several updates boasting unmatched capabilities. The new voice mode in ChatGPT allows users to monitor their surroundings and enquire about whatever is seen through the camera.

Additionally, the Vision mode of the feature is integrated with memory functionality, whose memory retention period has so far not been revealed by the leading AI firm.

Users can engage with the Vision feature in various ways. For example, they can show their bookshelf through the camera and ask for book recommendations, making it a good companion to be an integral part of their daily lives.

How to access Advanced Voice Mode with Vision feature in ChatGPT

  1. Once the feature rolls out, users can launch ChatGPT’s mobile app click the Advanced Voice icon, and select the video option from the latest interface for easy access.
  2. In the latest interface, users will see a video option, and click it to easily access it.

It's worth noting that all ChatGPT Team subscribers will be given access to the advanced feature by next week the latest version of ChatGPT mobile app.

The new ChatGPT feature will reach users in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, and Liechtenstein a bit later than most Plus and Pro users. Enterprise and Edu users will receive access to ChatGPT’s Advanced with Vision at the beginning of 2025.
