As Pakistan has been making significant strides towards self-sufficiency in smartphone manufacturing, the country has marked a significant uptick in growth in early 2025.

Citing data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), ProPakistani reported that local mobile phone assembly plants in the country produced 4.88 million smartphones between January and February 2025, with only 0.37 million units imported commercially.

Last year, Pakistan's local smartphone industry manufactured a total of 31.38 million handsets, whereas 1.71 million units were imported during the same period.

This trend underscores Pakistan’s efforts to increase domestic smartphone production and decrease reliance on imports to strengthen the local mobile phone industry.

Smartphones Pakistan manufactured most in 2025 so far

Out of the 4.88 million mobile phones Pakistan has assembled in the first two months of 2025, 2.85 million were 2G phones, and the remaining 2.03 million were smartphones. This stark contrast shows that a significant portion of Pakistan's population still opts for basic mobile devices.

As per the PTA data, 66% of mobile devices currently active on Pakistan-based networks are smartphones, while the remaining 34% (nearly one-third) were 2G feature phones.
