The renowned artificial intelligence (AI)-powered search engine Perplexity has announced plans to launch a new browser called “Comet.”
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the AI company has opened a sign-up list for interested users, although the browser's release date and features remain unclear.
“Just like Perplexity reinvented search, we’re also reinventing the browser,” a company spokesperson noted.
Perplexity web browser Comet
Preplexity's Comet browser is set to enter a crowded market dominated by established players like Chrome and numerous third-party alternative browsers.
Some of these alternatives, such as the upcoming Dia browser, offer AI-powered features similar to those found in Perplexity.
It should be noted that Perplexity might be relying on its existing search engine user base to drive the adoption of Comet.
The company has been rapidly expanding its product portfolio with the launch of its dedicated tool for “Deep Research” tool to compete with OpenAI’s recently launched research agent.
Founded in 2022, Perplexity is a popular search assistant that allows users to ask questions and receive detailed answers using AI capabilities.
It recently raised over $500 million in a funding round, which is believed to raise its valuation to $9 billion.
The search engine processes over 100 million queries weekly and is growing its monetisation efforts, including an advertising programme.
