So much has emerged and raised the standard bar in the high-end smartphone market during the past few days, particularly led by the spectacular Galaxy Unpacked event held earlier this week that inflated the sphere with remarkable foldable phones, making other manufacturers blush.

Despite that, a significant interest portion is still reserved for another groundbreaking event set to drop the jaws of enthusiasts and experts the same way.

Pixel 9 release date

That event is Made by Google, slated to lift the veil off Google Pixel 9 on August 13. It's long been confirmed that the Pixel 9 series will be based on four models, namely the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Google Pixel 9 features

Since rumours and reports regarding the Pixel 9 series have been emerging since May this year, there's no harm in saying that Google failed to keep its secrets.

Interestingly and recently, the devices reportedly reached the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to get certificated, and in the process ended up disclosing multiple features.

As reported by Android Police, all the Pixel 9 series models are reportedly being integrated with Thread radio, reminiscent of the Thread network stack expected to be supported on Android 15.

Just in case you're unfamiliar, Thread is a mesh networking standard built for Matter-compatible smart home devices, which is developed to be more power efficient than other standards like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

The only drawback with this standard is that it's out of the reach of ordinary users as only a few manufacturers have ventured into this domain and incorporated it under their flagship devices' hood.

The Thread radios were originally launched on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max by default last year, with Apple expected to replace Bluetooth with Thread in future.

Since it's not clear as to the exact capabilities of the reported Thread radio on the Pixel 9 series, leaks suggest that it will help users control Matter smart home devices.
