Xiaomi has finally launched its Xiaomi 15 series worldwide, comprising a standard and an Ultra model, months after its initial launch in China.
While the global variant of Xiaomi 15 retains the same features as its Chinese counterpart, the software has undergone significant changes to support Google services, including Find My Device.
Powered off finding feature on Xiaomi 15
Notably, a unique feature called powered-off finding, sets Xiaomi 15 apart from its predecessors. Even when the device is powered off, it can still be located using Google Find My Device.
This is made possible by the phone's ability to continue broadcasting Bluetooth beacons, allowing nearby devices to report its location.
Find My Device relies on a device's ability to report its own location or be reported by nearby devices. However, most Android phones cease to transmit location data when switched off, making them difficult to track.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 15 provides power to its Bluetooth controller even when turned off, enabling it to continue broadcasting beacons for several hours.
It should be noted that this feature is not exclusive to Xiaomi 15, as some other high-end Android devices, such as the Pixel 8 series, and Pixel 9 series, and non-Google devices such as the OnePlus 13, also support powered-off finding.
