The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday released its annual report for 2024-25. The report represents another chapter of growth, as despite various economic challenges, the number of broadband internet subscribers continues to increase.
PTA Annual Report 2024–25
As reported, the country has been able to achieve more than 200 million telecommunication subscribers and above 150 million broadband connections. Telecommunication services coverage stands above 92%, while broadband penetration stands above 60%.
The year saw the sector register a revenue of over Rs1 trillion, which constitutes a 12% rise on a year-on-year basis. The share of contributions to the national exchequer increased to Rs402 billion in 2025, compared to Rs336 billion in 2024.
Infrastructural growth also led data usage to reach 27,727 petabytes in 2025. Almost 95% of mobile communication networks are 4G compatible, facilitated by 17.21 Tbps international bandwidth.
Pakistan is also enhancing its region-wide connectivity investments by laying four new high-capacity submarine cables.
The National Roaming initiative and the overall development of the Pakistani telecommunication networks in Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan were enabled by PTA.
Local mobile manufacturing made significant advancements. More than 95% of mobile phones, with a total of 68% smartphones, are now locally made.
The Pakistani position in the international cybersecurity index was enhanced because of the PTA handling threats via the National Telecom Security Operations Centre (nTSOC). Consumer protection resulted in a reduction in complaints of 13%.
