In a bid to ensure that the cellular mobile network providers in the country deliver reliable and sound telecom services, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) conducted an independent Quality of Service (QoS) survey in 23 major cities across Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Aimed at assessing the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs), the survey route over 83 days navigated through main roads, service roads and colonies, with each CMO's services measured at around 4,000 km distance travelled.
The survey involved the evaluation of 0.38 million mobile broadband tests and 57,500 voice call and SMS tests with the help of automated QoS monitoring tools.

CMOs' performances were gauged with the metric set by KPIs from NGMS licenses and QoS Regulations 2021. The ranking was given for mobile network coverage, voice services, and broadband speed.
The outcome of the survey provided insights into how well CMOs comply with upload/download speeds and improvements in network latency and webpage loading times.
Unfortunately, the voice KPIs of some CMOs fell short of the standard bar in certain areas, with better provision of services being recognised specifically from operators leveraging advanced technologies like LTE Carrier Aggregation and Voice over LTE.
The telecom regulatory body directed all the operators to enhance service quality.
