PTA seeks stakeholder input on Pakistan's VPN regulatory framework

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) hosted a session on its VPN registration framework, attended by representatives from the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication (MoIT&T), Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and Pakistan IT Association (P@SHA). The major focus of this session, cultivating a secure environment for the IT and e-commerce sectors in Pakistan.

The PTA unveiled a streamlined VPN registration process, letting authorised users register their VPNs through a new online platform. 

This simplified framework supports uninterrupted access for IT companies, freelancers, and other stakeholders, establishing PTA’s commitment to Pakistan’s expanding digital economy.

Moreover, the session highlighted the importance of VPNs for secure connectivity, as participants also addressed concerns about the potential misuse of illegal activities. As a proactive measure, companies and freelancers will be encouraged to register their VPNs to ensure smooth operations and mitigate disruptions.

This consultation reinforces PTA’s commitment to creating a safe, accessible, and compliant digital landscape, encouraging the country’s IT sector while protecting national security.

PTA further added, that to ensure incessant online businesses, users are required to register their VPNs at:

https://ipregistration.pta.gov.pk/.

This process is said to take two to three days and is free of cost.
