In a bid to increase its efforts to become a global hub for artificial intelligence (AI), Saudi Arabia has partnered with US chipmaker giant Nvidia as part of the kingdom’s plans to establish a digital economy and reduce reliance on oil revenues.

Under the collaboration, the development of AI infrastructure and data centres will be ensured alongside the training of local developers. No financial details of the agreement have been disclosed.

The Saudi-Nvidia agreement marks a significant move in Saudi Arabia’s long-term efforts to attract foreign tech investment and establish itself as a leader in the realm of AI, according to Reuters.

The announcement came during US President Donald Trump’s Gulf tour, which is focused on improving economic ties and securing multi-billion-dollar business deals in the region.

Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, president of the Saudi Data & AI Authority, called the partnership a “major step” in turning Saudi Arabia into a data and AI-driven economy. The initiative is also being backed by the country’s powerful Public Investment Fund.

It comes on the heels of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiling Humain, a state-owned company designed to oversee the development and management of AI technologies locally.
