
Pakistan's Sindh government is planning a major collaboration with Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong to set up a bus assembly plant in Karachi.
The project aims to create job opportunities for skilled workers and improve public transportation in the province.
Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon disclosed the development at the 18th Build Asia International Conference and Exhibition at the Expo Centre.
The project is part of the province's bigger plan to boost economic activity and attract foreign investment.
The provincial government is also considering introducing an electric vehicle (EV) cab scheme and importing 100 additional buses to address transportation challenges.
Memon highlighted that efforts are underway to attract investments through collaborations with the federal government and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SFIC).
He also highlighted that the government is facilitating businesses at the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, a critical part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), to ensure long-term economic growth.
The Build Asia Exhibition, a flagship event for Pakistan’s construction sector, showcases sustainable and innovative construction technologies.
It featured exhibitors from 10 countries and attracted over 35,000 visitors. Discussion held at the event revolved around real estate investment, financing trends, PropTech, and SmartTech for tourism and hospitality.
