The Sindh government has announced to scale up its eco-friendly public transport initiatives by allocating fresh funds for electric vehicle (EV) taxis and scooters in the upcoming fiscal year.

During high-level meeting chaired by Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the decision was made that reviewed current projects and outlined new transport goals for the province.

Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, SMTA MD Kamal Dayo, and TransKarachi CEO Fuad Ghaffar Soomro were also in attendance.

As part of the upcoming plans, the provincial government will offer electric scooters free of cost to women through a transparent balloting process.

To note, the scheme is open to students, working women, and entrepreneurs who hold a valid two-wheeler license.

To further support the initiative, bike-riding training will be offered across Sindh with lady instructors to guide new riders.

For unemployed youth, the government has planned to provide electric taxis on easy installment plans, with financing models being developed in partnership with banks.

It is worth noting that the Sindh government aims to help individuals eventually own the vehicles and establish sustainable sources of income.
