In line with significant measures being taken to ramp up EV adoption and increase the availability and affordability of EV charging stations across Pakistan, the Sindh government is going to introduce an electric vehicle (EV) production policy.

It was announced by Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon while heading a meeting of the transport sub-committee of the Business Facilitation and Coordination Committee at the Sindh Secretariat on Wednesday.

Regarding efforts aimed at improving Karachi's transport infrastructure, Memon remarked that the provincial government will ensure that all the authorities concerned partake and collaborate.

As part of the redressal to the city's transport system, the problem of bus terminals will also be addressed within a month by regaining land occupied illegally by encroachment mafia across the province, The News cited the transport minister as saying.

The constitution of the EV production policy is slated to be rolled out at a time when the auto sector has significantly appeased foreign investors. He stressed the need to make significant strides for the wider adoption of EVs, which he sees as the future of the auto sector.

The provincial government is also planning to launch EV taxis in Karachi, Pakistan's industrial hub, not only to create employment opportunities for youth but also to mitigate the carbon footprint of the transport sector.
