Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse project has become a mystic in-development game since its announcement in 2021. There haven't been many updates, but the game's incredible cinematic trailer hinted that Star Wars Eclipse is set to be a dark and unique chapter in the iconic sci-fi franchise.
Developer Quantic Dream has a history of creating choice-based games, and Star Wars Eclipse is no different. Although little is known about the project, one thing is certain: a player's choices will matter and greatly affect the story.
Star Wars Eclipse promises various branching stories, reminiscent of the developer's most recent game, 2018's Detroit: Become Human. That game was an engaging exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) in a rapidly evolving world, where a player's choices were crucial to the story. However, the intensity of Star Wars Eclipse's decisions may be more akin to Until Dawn than Detroit: Become Human.

Comparison of Until Dawn and Detroit: Become Human's Effects
Until Dawn was a fresh and exciting take on the horror genre. As another choice-based game, it put the lives of its characters in the hands of players, with even the most minor decisions having severe consequences.
Both Detroit: Become Human and Until Dawn emphasise that each decision made in the game has significant results. However, Until Dawn's effects often feel more abrupt.
The consequences of Until Dawn's choices can seem to come out of nowhere, keeping first-time players on their toes. Another key difference between Detroit: Become Human and Until Dawn is that the latter's quick-time events (QTEs) can significantly affect the story more than the former.
A missed QTE in Until Dawn can immediately send a character to their death. Based on what Quantic Dream has revealed about Star Wars Eclipse, this seems to be the direction the developer is taking.
According to the company, anyone can die in Star Wars Eclipse. Such high stakes mean that each playthrough can be vastly different, and every decision and action must be carefully considered. Detroit: Become Human has similar consequences.
For example, at the start of android Kara's story, players can choose not to save Alice, resulting in Alice and Kara's death and ending their story very early in the game. While Detroit: Become Human has serious consequences, they arguably don't reach the same unexpected heights as Until Dawn's embrace of the Butterfly Effect.
