Bethesda announced that Starfield will have a brand-new story DLC, in addition to free updates and gameplay tweaks, all of which is great news for fans of the space RPG.

For those unacquainted, Starfield is designed as Bethesda's massive open-world sci-fi RPG where players will traverse grand galaxies, build ships, and define their own interstellar adventure.

The first expansion, Shattered Space, was released in September 2024, and reviewers generally responded warmly to the expansion.

However, despite the positive reception, the DLC did get fans to return to the game, which was experiencing low player counts. Bethesda aims for the second DLC to reignite interest in the title.

In a developer spotlight, Starfield's Lead Creative Producer Tim Lamb stated Bethesda is focused on creating "free updates, the features that players have requested, as well as a new DLC story."

He also confirmed that improvements to space gameplay are on the way and that they want to "make ship travel more rewarding."

This assertion aligns with the rumblings of a new system for space travel called a "cruise mode," wherein loading screens in the game would be replaced by interactive space travel.

However, Bethesda has failed to disclose dictated timelines; rumours have indicated the expansion won't appear before 2026. Adding to the speculation, a trademark for "Starborn" has surfaced, suggesting it could be the name of this expected new DLC.

Interestingly, leaks also indicate that Starfield may launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2026, making the timing of the expansion critical for the game’s future.
