While Pakistan is moving quickly toward the launch of next-generation mobile network technology, it seems to be gearing up to score another big milestone: permitting Starlink to operate across the country and provide high-speed, reliable internet connectivity to citizens.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Maj-Gen (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman revealed this development, stating that Elon Musk-owned Starlink’s registration with the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) was deep in the processing phase.

The PTA chief discussed the matter with the Starlink team at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, to tap opportunities having the potential to widen Pakistan's digital connectivity infrastructure, according to The News.

The focal point of the discussion was to make broadband access more affordable, especially in areas with little to no broadband access.

He reiterated the telecom regulatory body's commitment to fostering an innovative ecosystem in the country to enable emerging connectivity technologies nationwide.

Regarding Musk's satellite-based internet solutions, the Starlink delegation briefed the PTA chairman with insights into the intensifying competition in the sphere of cellular services and how it affects remote regions.
