Video game distribution service Steam has undertaken a few significant updates today to simplify downloads of playable game demos.

To address the reason behind the Steam update, in a recent event blog post, Steam said that the “Great Steam Demo Update,” was developed due to the player’s feedback.

Currently, demos entail a store page which is entirely different from the actual game, allowing developers to showcase only demo-related content including trailers, screenshots, and more.

In addition, to download the demo and visit the actual game store page, there is a display button that also allows players to depart demo-specific reviews.

Moreover, users would receive a notification if a demo appears for any game which is available on the user's wishlist, or from the following developer.

Demo listings would also become available on similar category pages as free pages. Users would be able to watch demos that usually appear, along with the free games. According to Steam, it has brought “some changes to the thresholds” to better balance them with paid products.”

This Steam update has brought a few other striking features too, the most intriguing among them is its ability to integrate demos into Steam libraries without instantly installing the demo.

It would also allow the full game owners to install the demos, and simplify to remove demos by right-clicking on them. When the demos are uninstalled they would be instantly removed from the user's library.

Additionally, Steam update 2024 launched a few visibility changes that would reappear the previous demos over the player’s account, and according to Steam, “We’ve tried our best to clean up the demos that we expect you don’t care about anymore, but we may have missed some.”
