Chromebooks, laptops designed by Google that run on ChromeOS, are budget alternatives to Windows and Mac laptops offering some great features and integration with Android smartphones. 

However, in October 2023, Google announced the Chromebook Plus program as a better and more improved version of Chromebooks along with some new specifications such as 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Intel Core i3 12th generation processor, 1080p camera resolution and a Full HD display. 

These Chromebook Plus requirements are a great baseline for manufacturers such as Lenovo, Asus Samsung etc. to follow to ensure an enhanced user experience.

Hidden features of Chromebook Plus 

Apart from the above-mentioned specifications, Chromebook Plus also offers some exclusive features and apps that distinguish it from normal Chromebooks.

Enhanced video calling

Whether you’re on Facetime with loved ones, giving an online job interview or attending a webinar, Camera and video quality matters a lot.

Chromebooks Plus offers a 1080p camera with improved video quality along with built-in AI features that add background blur, and prevent background noise all of this with a single click.

These features aren't limited to Google Meet but are also available in Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.

AI photo editing features

Chromebook Plus devices offer useful image-editing features in the Google Photos app along with Google AI features such as the Magic Eraser tool, to remove distractions from your photo. Moreover, you can also apply the HDR effect to level up brightness and add a background blur to your photos.

Offline Google Files

On Chromebook Plus, you can use Google Workspace and Google Drive files offline without an active internet connection to open and edit your files.

Enhances your writing

If you write an essay, a YouTube video description, or a social media post, by right-clicking you can use an AI editor that refines your writing

AI wallpapers and Themes

Google has brought generative AI wallpapers to Chromebook Plus devices enabling you to be as creative as you want and create wallpapers for your device using text prompts.

Apart from these integrated AI features, Google has also brought Gemini to your home screen. By tapping the Gemini icon you can interact with Gemini easily.

Google plans to continue adding new features to Chromebook Plus over time, however, it rolled out the significant AI features to Chromebook Plus models in May 2024.
